Мы пользуемся первым типом условного предложения, если хотим сказать, что какое-то действие произойдет или не произойдет только при каком-то условии. Причем выполнение этого условия – реально.
Мы пользуемся вторым типом условного предложения, если хотим показать, что условие, о котором идет речь – как минимум трудновыполнимо, невероятно, а то и совсем нереально ни в настоящем, ни в будущем времени. Подчас это не больше, чем просто предположения и мечтания, но формально еще все возможно, ведь чудеса все-таки иногда случаются.
If Nick and Mike come now, they will help us.
If Nick and Mike came now, they would help us.
If Peter has time, he will read the book quickly.
If Peter had time now, he would read the book quickly.
They will not always study well if they don’t work hard.
They would not always study well if they didn’t work hard.
John will behave better if Nick doesn’t tease him.
John would behave better if Nick didn’t tease him every day.
If Peter has time, he will read the book quickly.
